Disney’s photorealistic retelling of The Lion King has clawed its way to the top of the box office to become the highest-grossing animated film of all time, less than two weeks after it crossed over the billion-dollar mark.
Variety reports that Jon Favreau’s remake secured third place at the box office this past weekend, earning a further $20 million to bring the film’s worldwide gross up to $1.335 billion, including $472.8 million at the US box office.
