World of Warcraft Classic is set to launch on August 27, and stop me if you’ve heard this before: a lot of folks are taking off work to partake. But you may want to readjust your plans based on a new tidbit of info from Blizzard.
Thankfully warning us before we all kind of just plunge into the chaos together, Blizzard community manager Kaivax gave us a quick update on realm population: specifically, they expect Herod (the most popular US realm) to have login queues “of excess of 10,000 players.” Note that this isn’t “10,000 players are playing on Herod,” but 10,000 people will be trying to log in while you wait in a giant line.
To compensate Blizzard is giving folks that Stalagg realm in addition to all the other options, and will roll out more realms as needed. Wait isn’t WoW Classic more advanced in terms of infrastructure? Well yes, but Kaivax addresses that concern directly: “While we are able to fit several times more players on a single realm in 2019 than was the case in 2006, we are not going to raise that cap any further, even though we have the technical capacity to do so.”
I can attest to issues while creating my character/parking my name in Herod, before the game is even out. While bashing about in an overcrowded PVP realm is going to be a ton of fun, I also need to weigh time considerations: so I may end up swapping! Or I could always multibox with two different accounts and see which one wins the race.
