Apple announced a new smartwatch with the Apple Watch Series 5 during a press conference from the Steve Jobs Theater at the Apple campus in Cupertino, California.
The Apple Watch Series 5 will cost $399 with GPS, and $499 with GPS and cellular service. The Apple Watch Series 5 will become available on September 20, with pre-orders starting now.
Apple’s Stan Ng announced the new Apple Watch Series 5 is a substantial improvement over the previous iteration. It features a new always-on retina display. This makes the watchface visible at all times. With previous models, lowering your wrist would make the watch screen darken.
The Apple Watch Series 5 features an 18-hour battery life. A built-in compass has also been added, using the maps app, allowing users to integrate the compass app into the watchface. It’ll also include latitude and longitude and vertical elevation.
