DC Comics is teasing a major status quo change for the Superman franchise in late 2019. Newsarama has spotted among DC’s December solicitations some pretty convincing evidence that Superman will be revealing his secret identity to the general public. In particular, there’s the solicit for Lois Lane #7, which reads, “This issue ties to the events of December’s Superman #18 and the gigantic status quo shift for both Lois and her husband, Superman, when the Man of Steel decides to reveal his identity to the world.”
In a vacuum, this might seem like a shocking development for Superman, but given both Marvel and DC’s recent history with secret identity leaks, we can’t help but wonder – so what? What makes this story any different than the others that have explored the fleeting consequences of leaked identities?
