Blizzard has been cozying up with Nintendo lately and it’s kind of great.
In addition to bringing Diablo III to Switch (which led to a “Diablo in Smash” chant from the developers), they’ve also opted to port Overwatch: a prospect that they’ve struggled with for several years when asked. Now that it’s finally happening, Overwatch boss Jeff Kaplan has something to say about it.
When asked by IGN, Kaplan noted that he’d love to see any of the 31 characters make an appearance in Nintendo’s all-star fighting franchise, but one of them sticks out the most: I think it’s obvious, right? Kaplan replies: “Tracer’s our girl, Tracer’s our mascot. She’d be my first choice,” he said. “There’s a lot of great runners up. I think a lot of people can immediately see Doomfist gameplay applying to Smash, but if it were up to me, I’d like to see Tracer.” Producer for the Switch port, Wes Yanagi, echoed that he’d like to see Winston.
I can see it! Her ability set is light, which fits Smash‘s similarly light scale. Her bombs will obviously make it in, as will her teleport, and her ultimate smash can be calling in a ton of old friends, which is pretty much the go-to.
