Zelda is one of those series that means completely different things to each person that’s played it. To some it was best during the NES era, with Zelda II as the pinnacle of what it could achieve. To others, Link to the Past‘s SNES efforts set the tone for the rest of the series, or the RPG landscape in general, and perfected the blueprint of the original NES title. But over time I think the spark of the Nintendo 64 era has endured the most, as evidenced by this trailer from The Regressor and Vince94.

In case you forgot, Nintendo announced a direct Breath of the Wild sequel at E3 this year! We don’t know if it’s going to be called Breath of the Wild 2, or Breath of the Wild: Call of the Doomed or what have you, but it exists, and that duo re-created the debut trailer with N64 visuals. As Regressor notes, the quality is supposed to be off, so “if it looks like a flaw or error, it was likely 100% intentional and either left in or put in on purpose.”

To craft it they impressively created it all from scratch with Maya 2009 and Photoshop, with a conversion down to 15-18 FPS to give it an old school feel. Mission accomplished! Maybe Nintendo will insert some sort of N64 filter into Breath of the Wild 2 like Playtonic has been doing with the Yooka-Laylee series.
