I didn’t expect Pokémon: Let’s Go to be a one-off deal, but right now, that’s how things are shaping up.

In an interview with Eurogamer, Game Freak’s Junichi Masuda said that “at the moment there’s no particular plans” at the company to produce another Let’s Go-style game based on, say, Pokémon Silver and Gold, or other titles in the series. The Pokémon Yellow remake we got was enough, it seems.

“If the fans really like [Let’s Go] then definitely keep those voices coming out to The Pokémon Company and Nintendo, and make sure we hear them,” he added. “We wanna hear those comments!”

Pokemon: Let's Go, Pikachu

Do I want another Let’s Go game exactly like Let’s Go, Pikachu and Let’s Go, Eevee? No. Once was enough. But would I play another remake or re-imagining that built on some of those same design principles, took a few more creative risks, and offered more robust features for long-time fans? Absolutely.

As someone who played Pokémon Red on the playground and never left this series in the decades since, I actually really enjoyed Let’s Go for what it was. It’s easy to slip into, above all. It was also fun seeing wild Pokémon roam the map and building up combos to encourage shinies to come out of hiding.

That said, Let’s Go didn’t go out of its way to exceed expectations – it safely checked off the usual boxes. I think the developers have a home-run remake in them, but it’s going to take a lot of work. If we could get a new game that landed somewhere between Let’s Go and HeartGold/SoulSilver, I’d be thrilled.
