Borderlands 3 doesn’t have its first major premium DLC yet, but it is hosting its first major free event: Bloody Harvest.

This thing is all Halloween and neon-green, and will run from now through December 5: right on through until the true Holiday season, not the Hallmark “we kinda think we should be able to sell Holiday stuff in September” season. Bloody Harvest doesn’t come with a huge argument-filled character nerf patch either, mainly just a bunch of classic bug fixes, as well as the addition of mayhem mode for true vault hunter gametypes on consoles, photo mode on consoles, and ECHOcast Twitch extension support for…you guessed it, consoles.

As for the former, you can also specifically use matchmaking tools for mayhem mode now, which should help out a lot of folks who don’t have friends to directly partner up with. Outside of the Flakker now using one ammo bit instead of five, not much has changed from a gameplay perspective. Gearbox says it’s planning bigger things for future patches, including dedicated loot pools for bosses, a bigger bank (this is probably my most-requested feature, and will be “rolled out over future releases”), Mayhem Level 4, character buffs (we love to see it), more vending machines, skippable cutscenes, and a target dummy to test out gear in the Sanctuary III hub.

I hope this is just the start. Borderlands 2 support lasted for years, and I’d love to have the ability to jump into Borderlands 3 periodically the same way.
