PlayStation CEO Jim Ryan could be interested in expanding Sony’s line-up of first-party studios, but not with out exercising a bit of caution.
Speaking to GamesIndustry.Biz, Ryan said they are “always looking” for new game development studios to acquire, similar to how they recently purchased Marvel’s Spider-Man developer Insomniac Games, but that they are “careful about who we look at and talk to.”
Ryan described the current landscape as a “seller’s market,” explaining that “buying studios right now is a very expensive undertaking.” So while that slower approach makes it seem like Sony might not be looking at all, Ryan still said “there is room for us to do more in that area, but we have to make sure that the company is right.”
