The most exciting new thing hitting Super Mario Maker 2 is the ability to wield Link’s Master Sword, and of course, become Link himself. Playing as Link comes with a whole new varied movelist. Link can fire arrows in multiple directions, pull out bombs on command, ground slam with his sword, and dash forward with his sword out. With your brand new movelist, the possibilities it opens up for temple-like puzzle-solving, and even custom made boss battles, is definitely intriguing.

Puzzle rooms are nothing new to Mario Maker, but you’ve always been restricted to Mario’s limited moveset. Exploring the Nintendo-made dungeons were challenging, but satisfying just like a Zelda dungeon should be. Several times through my playthrough was I told that I solved something an unintended way, but to me, that’s where the fun comes in. Seeing a problem and coming up with my own solution is something I don’t think I will ever tire of, and I can’t wait for these to be in the wild to see what level creators come up with. While it’s still not a full-on “Zelda Maker,” this should still scratch that itch for now, and is hopefully an indication that Nintendo will one day make the long asked for ‘Zelda Dungeon Maker’ a reality.
