Keri Russell, who plays the new character Zorii Bliss in Star Wars Episode 9: The Rise of Skywalker, never took her helmet off for the first two days of filming, according to writer/director J.J. Abrams.
In a press conference held Wednesday morning for The Rise of Skywalker – the cast, Abrams, and some crew commented on what the experience of making the film was like for them. When it came time to address Keri Russell’s new, mysterious character, Zorii Bliss – Russell was quick to profess her love for the character’s mask.
“J.J. called me and said ‘do you want to be in Star Wars?” Russell said. “He told me about the idea of the mask, and I love the mask. It’s a real power play because no one can see what you’re thinking but you can see everyone else. I’ve known J.J. for so long and I feel like we have a shorthand, and I feel like J.J. got to finish a piece of history.”
