Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, one of the most anticipated films in the final months of 2019, has earned over $800 million worldwide since its December 20th release.
However, despite the film’s success, The Rise of Skywalker still trails preceding episodes The Force Awakens and The Last Jedi in terms of box office sales. The Force Awakens was by far the biggest success of the three films, bringing in an impressive $2.1 billion worldwide.
Despite pulling in almost $17 million at the New Year’s Day box office, The Rise of Skywalker likely won’t be able to surpass Episode 7, but could possibly catch Episode 8. However, the odds don’t seem great, as The Last Jedi pulled in a total of $1.3 billion globally.
