The Snake Eyes origin movie has started production and star Henry Golding revealed that the upcoming movie will explore the human side of the G.I. Joe character. That means going behind the mask and diving deeper into how the character becomes the famous ninja operative.

During a press junket in Japan, Golding told the press that it’s important to see Snake Eyes’ face in the movie. “For us to never really see what’s beneath the mask it always missed something,” Golding said.
“Snake Eyes was always seen as a weapon, as almost an inanimate object. But when you get to see someone’s eyes as a weapon, as almost an inanimate object. But when you get to see someone’s eyes you get to see that past, their future, the personality behind that.”
Golding revealed that the origin movie will explore this human aspect of the character and will take place somewhere at the beginning of Snake Eyes’ career and “see how he progresses and how develops” as a human.

Snake Eyes is being directed by Robert Schwntke. Aside from Golding as Snake Eyes, the movie will star Andrew Koji as his Cobra rival Storm Shadow, Iko Uwais as Hard Master, Ursula Corbero as Baroness, and Samara Weaving as Scarlett.
This is the first G.I Joe film since 2013’s G.I. Joe: Retaliation. Snake Eyes is scheduled to be released in theaters on October 23, 2020.
