In my opinion, the Kindle Paperwhite is the the best Kindle for most people. It’s ultra thin and light, with a battery that lasts for weeks or even months between charges. It’s completely waterproof, so you don’t have to worry about dropping it in the bath, pool, or hot tub. You can choose between the standard black design, or a soothing tone called twilight blue. It has an easy-on-the-eyes 300 ppi display and a built-in adjustable light for reading in dim or dark settings.
In case you’re wondering, special offers are just ads for books that appear on the screen when you’re not using the device. They’re not very intrusive, but you can spend an extra $20 to get one without them. Even if you opt for a model with special offers, you can pay $20 anytime to get rid of them. That’s right, even eBook readers have DLC now.

The standard Kindle is also on sale for as low as $59.99. This is the newest model, so it comes with an adjustable light built into it. In fact, it has most of the same features as the Paperwhite, but with two main differences. First, it’s not waterproof, so if you like reading in the bath, dropping it could prove hazardous. Second, at 167 ppi, the display isn’t as crisp as the Paperwhite model. If you don’t mind those differences, though, you’ll save $25 by going with this one.
Or, if you’re made of money, you can grab the Kindle Oasis, which isn’t on sale right now and starts at $250… but it has an adjustable “warm light” instead of a standard adjustable light. That and the wider form factor are about the only differences between it and the Paperwhite. Oh, and the price.
