Dungeons and Dragons developer Wizards of the Coast has announced Explorer’s Guide to WIldemount, a new roleplaying book in collaboration with Critical Role’s chief creative officer and dungeon master Matt Mercer.

The 304-page sourcebook will be released on March 17 — available for preorder — and details the continent of Wildemount, the setting of Critical Role’s second campaign, alongside introductory adventures and plot seeds to begin your own adventures in the Critical Role world.

In addition to the setting, the Explorer’s Guide to Wildemount book introduces new player options, including subclasses like the Echo Knight fighter subclass, the Dunamancy school of magic, and new magic items and monsters to throw at your adventurers.

“Dungeons & Dragons has had such a massive, positive impact on nearly my entire life, and I am ever inspired by the endless creativity I see it spark in so many others across the world,” said Matt Mercer, Dungeon Master of Critical Role and lead writer on the guide. “To have been able to work with Wizards of the Coast to bring my world to life as an official campaign book is nothing short of surreal. I can’t wait to see what other DMs and players create within my world to make it their own!”

“Critical Role is a great example of why Dungeons & Dragons has been popular for over 45 years: a group of friends getting together, telling stories, and making each other laugh,” said Nathan Stewart, VP of Franchise for Dungeons & Dragons. “We’re thrilled D&D fans and Critters alike can now enjoy playing in Matt’s world, as brought to fifth edition in this lovingly-crafted book.”

The Critical Role team also successfully kickstarted Critical Role: The Legend of Vox Machina animated series that absolutely obliterated its $750,000 funding goal in less than an hour, before climbing to over 11 million dollars by the campaign’s end, and an eventual two-season series order from Amazon Prime Video.

If you can’t wait for the Explorer’s Guide to Wildemount to jump into Critical Role’s world of Exandria, you can get your feet wet with the Critical Role: Tal’Dorei Campaign Setting book written by Matt Mercer and James Haeck based on the setting of Critical Role’s first campaign.
