After today’s announcement that Byleth from Fire Emblem: Three Houses is coming to Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, reactions are mixed.
The Three Houses protagonist is the fifth and final character in Smash Ultimate’s first Fighters Pass. Director Masahiro Sakurai also announced that six more characters are on the way in Fighters Pass Volume 2, so regardless of your feelings on Byleth, there are still plenty more characters to look forward to.
Some Fans Are Disappointed With ‘Another Fire Emblem Character’
With Byleth’s addition, there are now eight Fire Emblem characters on the Smash Ultimate roster. Some believe that’s too many representatives from Nintendo’s strategy RPG series.
Nintendo fans: “We got many 3rd party characters as DLC, we want NINTENDO characters!”
Sakurai: “OK, Byleth from Fire Emblem Three Houses for Nintendo Switch family of systems”
Nintendo fans: “wait no…” pic.twitter.com/RnNSvFAF04

Reactions to the False Dante Predictions
Some fans were convinced that Dante from the Devil May Cry series would be the fifth DLC fighter. Instead, we got a fighter that not very many people saw coming.
Well hello. Dante might be here. 😛 pic.twitter.com/iI1cPg0WGI

I will never get tired of people being so sure what the next Smash characters will be.
Grinch Leak is a done deal. It has to be.
Everyone just KNEW that Dante was gonna be the 5th fighter.
When Byleth was the one announced……..jackpot. lol pic.twitter.com/mqZc5AwI6P

The funniest thing about Byleth getting in was NO-ONE EXPECTED IT. JUST LIKE A SMASH ANNOUNCEMENT SHOULD BE
People were thinking TOO crazy. Nintendo snuck round the back of the tinfoil hat bonfire party and made the new character TOO PREDICTABLE
A MASTER PLAN!!! INCREDIBLE!

Three Houses Fans Are Excited
Fire Emblem: Three Houses was a hit last year, winning the People’s Choice award at The Game Awards. Some Fire Emblem fans are happy to see more success for Three Houses.

first it at the game awards, now this, three houses will not be stopped lmao

I can see why some people are mad. I mean if I didn’t care about FE and saw another FE rep I’d be annoyed too.
But keep in mind :
• It’s a big series right now
• Sakurai has a passion for it
• Byleth specifically isn’t just a swordsman
• You’re getting 6 more characters pic.twitter.com/g81KQMLYrG— FADEL – Master Of Hype (@YuYuKamii) January 16, 2020
i’m not too big into smash but i’m actually really happy for Byleth being added. When Corrin was added, it introduced me to Fire Emblem and basically kickstarted my love for the series and its characters. Screw the hate man, I’m hoping Byleth will encourage people to try 3H

When I see things like the Byleth reveal in Smash, it seems so strange to think the franchise was considered almost dead in relatively recent history.
I’m so excited to see how FE continues to grow going forward, and I can’t wait to try out this new fighter!

Excitement for Cuphead’s Mii Fighter Costume
Cuphead is joining Smash Ultimate as a costume for the Mii Gunner, and many players are thrilled to see more indie representation in Smash Bros.

It doesn’t hit you until you think about how unique of a game Smash Bros. Ultimate REALLY is.
I literally can’t think of any other game that has so many big names like Persona, Banjo-Kazooie, Cuphead, Undertale, Assassins Creed, etc. being represented in a singular title.

as an indie dev, I’m so happy that both Sans and Cuphead are in Smash Bros….indies really do have a chance to be in the greatest celebration of games ever. pic.twitter.com/m0vrPjX2yS

Byleth will join Super Smash Bros. Ultimate on January 28. On the same day, you’ll be able to pre-purchase Fighters Pass Volume 2, which comes with a Ancient Armor Mii costume from Breath of the Wild. You can see what we thought of the last challenger pack by reading our Terry Bogard DLC review.
