It feels like Pokémon Sword and Shield‘s Gigantamaxing will end up being little more than a short-lived footnote in the series’ history once Game Freak devises some other eye-catching mechanic in a future game, but for now, it’s here to stay. There’s even a new Gigantamax event happening this week.
The purple electric/poison punk Toxtricity rounded out my team during most of my adventure in Pokémon Sword, so I feel obligated to add Gigantamax Toxtricity to my collection. The beefed-up Pokémon can use G-Max Stun Shock to hurt and poison or paralyze every opponent. Nasty stuff!
To catch Gigantamax Toxtricity, you’ll need to take on a special Max Raid Battle, and yes, there’s a deadline. The event runs in the Wild Area from Thursday, February 6, at 4:00 pm Pacific until Sunday, March 8, at 5:00 pm Pacific. Just make sure you’re connected to the internet to participate.
Another heads-up for dedicated Max Raid Battlers: Amped Form Toxtricity (yellow) is a Pokémon Sword exclusive, while Pokémon Shield players will be able to face Low Key Form Toxtricity (blue). That said, if you’re hoping to get both forms, you can always just join battles hosted by your fellow players.
The simple fact that I actually want this one means I’m going to struggle. That’s my luck.
