Last year, IGN visited the set of Altered Carbon Season 2 as part of an exclusive IGN Premiere first look at the Netflix show’s much-anticipated return. We’re rolling out a series of exclusive sneak peeks for Season 2 this week, so keep it locked right here for never-before-seen interviews and behind the scenes footage of Anthony Mackie as Takeshi Kovacs, Chris Conner as Poe, and Renée Elise Goldsberry as Quellcrist Falconer. For more, be sure to check out our spoiler-free review of Altered Carbon Season 2, and our interview with Mackie discussing how his version of Kovacs is different from Joel Kinnaman’s.

One of the more compelling storylines from Altered Carbon Season 1 is Kovacs (Joel Kinnaman) and Poe’s (Chris Connor) budding bromance. For a while, it was uncertain if Poe would even survive after he (apparently) sacrificed himself in order to save his friends. Now that we know he’s back, thanks to a reveal in the official Season 2 trailer and a casting announcement from Netflix, we wanted to know if the dynamic duo’s relationship will evolve with Anthony Mackie’s version of Kovacs taking over for Kinnaman.

“In Season 2, the stakes between them get even higher because Kovacs is depending on Poe to help him find Quell, but Poe is suffering from a glitch in his system that makes him more unreliable than before,” showrunner Alison Schapker tells IGN. “So, there’s greater tension between Kovacs and Poe, but we’re also going to see their relationship continue to grow as they spend time together on Harlan’s World.”

For a look at the duo on exploring the neon-lit streets of Harlan’s World in Altered Carbon Season 2, watch our exclusive sneak peek video below or at the top of the page:

Schapker refers to Kovacs and Poe as a “kind of odd couple,” but they have an undeniably symbiotic relationship – even if Kovacs probably wouldn’t admit it to anyone.

“Kovacs would rather keep a lid on his emotions, but Poe is fascinated by humans and has deep feelings for his employer and therefore, he never stops needling Kovacs,” Schapker says. “Although Kovacs would be reluctant to admit it, he benefits from this.”
