Last year, IGN visited the set of Altered Carbon Season 2 as part of an exclusive IGN Premiere first look at the Netflix show’s much-anticipated return. We’re rolling out a series of exclusive sneak peeks for Season 2 this week, so keep it locked right here for never-before-seen interviews and behind the scenes footage of Anthony Mackie as Takeshi Kovacs, Chris Conner as Poe, and Renée Elise Goldsberry as Quellcrist Falconer. For more, be sure to check out our spoiler-free review of Altered Carbon Season 2, and our interview with Mackie discussing how his version of Kovacs is different from Joel Kinnaman’s, and an exclusive clip featuring Takeshi and Poe walking the streets of Harlan’s World

There are plenty of changes ahead in Altered Carbon season 2: Takeshi Kovacs is rocking a brand-new Anthony Mackie sleeve (and traveling to a planet very far away from Earth’s rain-soaked streets of Bay City), plus, the show is introducing a handful of important new characters you need to know about before you binge on Thursday, February 27.

In our exclusive interview with showrunner Alison Schapker, she told us that Kovacs’ journey to the planet of Harlan’s World in Season 2 prompts him to assemble a new team to help him on his quest to find Quellcrist Falconer (Renée Elise Goldsberry). One of those new characters is Trepp, a bounty hunter played by Luke Cage alumna Simone Missick. “She starts out hunting him, but then their relationship takes a turn,” Schapker told IGN. “She’s every bit his equal and a badass.”

For the full interview with Schapker, Missick, and the rest of the new cast members, watch the video below or at the top of the page:

While Takeshi and Poe’s (Chris Connor) relationship will continue to grow in Season 2, Schapker is excited to introduce a new AI, called Dig 301, portrayed by Jack Ryan’s Dina Shihabi. Dig is an “out of work AI to an ‘archaeolog’ — that’s what we call the archaeologists on the planet who assisted people who dug into these Elder artifacts because there was a civilization there before humans colonized this planet,” Schapker explained. Unfortunately for Dig, the new governor of Harlan’s World has outlawed the study of Elder artifacts, so Dig is searching for a new purpose when she meets Poe.

On the villain front, there’s Operation Finale’s Torben Liebrecht, who plays the leader of a Protectorate Special Forces unit known as The Wedge. Schapker wouldn’t go into too much detail on Colonel Carrera’s Season 2 storyline, but she did say that he’s “an antagonist on multiple fronts” who will do his utmost to stop Kovacs and his new team from fulfilling their mission.

If you want to see Trepp, Dig 301, and Carrera in action, be sure to tune into Altered Carbon Season 2 when it premieres on Netflix on Thursday, February 27, 2020.

David Griffin still watches DuckTales in his pajamas with a cereal bowl in hand. He’s also the TV Editor for IGN. Say hi on Twitter.
