Colin Farrell has officially been cast in Disney’s Artemis Fowl as the titular character’s father, who also goes by the name of Artemis Fowl.
Disney recently released a new trailer and poster for the upcoming live-action movie, showcasing Farrell’s role in the Kenneth Branagh adaptation, which is based on the beloved book by Eoin Colfer.

Up until now, Farrell’s name had not been attached to the project, however, footage from the new trailer confirms that he will be playing the father of the lead character, who is a 12-year-old criminal mastermind that finds himself being pulled into a secret underground world of fairies, dwarves and trolls.
The actor makes a further appearance on the new poster, also released on Monday. Check it out below:
Farrell joins the cast alongside Ferdia Shaw as Artemis Fowl Jnr, Lara McDonnell as Captain Holly Short, Josh Gad as Mulch Diggums, Tamara Smart as Juliet, Nonso Anozie as Butler, Josh McGuire as Briar Cudgeon, Nikesh Patel as Foaly, Adrian Scarborough as The Goblin Chief and Miranda Raison as Angeline Fowl, together with Judi Dench as Commander Root.

Director Branagh previously told IGN that he saw parallels between the way in which he conceived the first Thor movie and the way in which he was now trying to create the world of Artemis Fowl, saying that “a very contemporary feeling — still heightened world of science — is right next door to a world of magic.”
