Apple announced the brand-new 2020 MacBook Air models with nothing more than a press release. But don’t be fooled by the low-key announcement — this is exactly the MacBook Air update that I and many others have been waiting for.

Not only does the new MacBook Air come with the enormously improved Magic keyboard (first seen in the pricy 16-inch MacBook Pro), but it also comes with double the storage and a reasonable $999 price tag ($100 less than the previous model). If you’ve been holding off for a new laptop, this is probably the one you’ve been waiting for.

Best Buy and Amazon have the above configurations that should work for just about everyone. The baseline model is great, but the 512GB one has more storage and a faster processor. Alternately, you can customize even further at Apple.

The new MacBook Airs all sport speedy 10th-generation Icy Lake Intel Core processors (Y-Series) and batteries that last up to 11 hours between charges. They have pixel-dense Retina screens with True Tone technology. They also have massive trackpads and way better keyboards compared to previous models.

Let’s talk about that keyboard. For years, Apple’s butterfly-switch keyboards have been getting dinged in the press for keys breaking just because a speck of dust drifted underneath and got stuck. Also, the tall left and right arrow keys looked nice, but they were much harder to use by touch than the previous “inverted T” arrow keys were.

mba-top-viewThe new keyboard nixes the super low-travel butterfly switches for much more reliable scissor switches that offer more travel and generally feel a lot better when typing. The short left and right arrow keys are back, perfect for navigating by feel. You also still have a TouchID in the upper corner to replace entering passwords.

It’s basically everything everyone has wanted in an Apple keyboard for years. And all it took was Jony Ive leaving the company to get it. (I kid, but only sort of).

The MacBook Airs come in three color options: space gray, silver, and gold. They all look great, so you can’t really go wrong no matter which one you choose.
