Yesterday, Patrick Stewart tweeted out a discount code ahead of the Star Tek: Picard season finale to let you watch CBS All Access free for an entire month, meaning you can binge the entire season, and then some, at a pretty leisurely pace.

I’ve started rewatching Star Trek: The Next Generation, which I loved as a kid but haven’t watched since. One thing that stands out to me is how great it still is, even now. It can get a little cheese-ball, but by and large the stories and characters are still great. I’m kind of surprised how much I’m enjoying it, and it’s making me read up on Star Trek timelines and series I missed before.

Every single Star Trek series is available to stream on-demand CBS All Access, from the original 1960s show, to the first season of Picard. The awesome Star Trek Animated Series is on there, too. Surely you’ve seen at least one meme using some of its frames. It’s pretty great.

If you’re wondering if you need to go back and watch all of Star Trek: The Next Generation ahead of Picard, it’s not really necessary. The titular character in Picard isn’t the same as the Picard in TNG, sort of, because of the parallel “Kelvin timeline” introduced in the 2009 Star Trek movies. Picard is still Picard, but not the Picard from the TNG series. It’s kind of confusing, but the events of Star Trek: TNG don’t have an effect on the events of Picard because both Picards exist in different timelines. Both still have major threats from the Borg, but the level-headed, diplomatic Picard of TNG is more brash in the Kelvin timeline.

In the event that sounds confusing, it is, so don’t fret. You can still enjoy all CBS All Access has to offer, for free, for an entire month. After the trial ends, it’s $5.99 a month for the basic package and $9.99 a month for ad-free access.
