Parasite won the Academy Award for best picture, and now you can watch it for free. That’s because it just landed on Hulu, and Hulu offers a free 30-day trial you can begin right now.
Even if you don’t typically watch foreign-language films, Parasite is well worth your time. It has a little of everything: it’s dark, funny, thrilling, and incredibly well made. Every frame of the movie is carefully considered.

It’s about a poor family that lives in a tiny basement apartment where they have to crowd together in the bathroom to borrow Wi-Fi. Near their window to the street, a drunkard often stops to relieve himself. So when the son lands a job working for a rich family, it seems their fortunes finally might change. Each member of the poor family tries to work their way into the rich family’s life.
The movie just pulls you a long as the story unfolds and the two families become more entangled. There’s always something interesting happening onscreen, and the twists come at the most dramatic possible moments. The tension Bong Joon-ho is able to harness when the poor family is trying to sneak through the house unnoticed is just incredible. It’s such a fantastic movie, I can’t recommend it highly enough. Parasite’s not the only reason to subscribe to Hulu, though. You’ll find other movies, including recent releases like Portrait of a Lady on Fire, Booksmart, Bumblebee, and a bunch more. It also has classics like Blazing Saddles and Wayne’s World.
The other part of the equation is Hulu’s massive library of TV shows, ranging from Cheers and Seinfeld to episodes of current shows that just aired, like The Bachelor and Modern Family (RIP). I’m currently really into Devs, a show written and directed by Alex Garland, the mind behind Ex Machina and, believe it or not, the highly underrated game Enslaved: Odyssey to the West.
Anyway, sign up for the Hulu free 30-day trial. Check out Parasite. Poke around, and you’ll likely find a ton of other stuff worth watching. Pro tip: choose the ad-free option for your trial. You can downgrade at any time, including before your first bill arrives. And if you do decide to keep Hulu after the free trial, it’s $5.99 per month with ads, or $11.99 without.
