Sony made the announcement last month that Horizon Zero Dawn is being ported to PC, and that has people dreaming big about which of their favorite PlayStation 4 games might be next. There was a glimmer of hope that round two was nigh via the usually-reliable retailer leak, but, alas, it turned out to be a ruse. A hoax, deception, pure chicanery.
This morning, Amazon France got several new listings for PC versions of major PS4 titles. Among them were The Last of Us Part II, Bloodborne, Days Gone, Gran Turismo Sport, Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection, and Persona 5 Royal.
Sony was quick to refute these leaks, bluntly telling IGN “The listings are not accurate. We have made no announcements to bring these games to PC.” Similarly, Sega gave a statement to PC Gamer regarding Persona 5 Royal that says “That listing is an error and we’re looking into having it taken down and how it happened.”
When Sony made the Horizon Zero Dawn reveal, it made a point to emphasize that this wouldn’t necessarily become a regular occurrence. Hermen Hulst, the head of Sony Worldwide Studios said “And to maybe put a few minds at ease, releasing one first-party AAA title to PC doesn’t necessarily mean that every game now will come to PC. We don’t have plans for day-and-date [PC releases].”
Sony is showing more restraint than that, maybe even treating Horizon Zero Dawn as a case study for how it wants to approach PC as a platform for its games. However, this Amazon France trickster could not show the same restraint — and the sheer quantity of their fakes made it an attempted hoodwinking that was easy to see through.
