For the King strikes me as an interesting wildcard choice for a free game.
It’s a turn-based tabletop-inspired roguelike RPG with co-op that lets players “split up and cover more ground,” which is another way of saying there’s a lot going on, and it might not all resonate with you. That said, it’s worth checking out if it’s in your wheelhouse. If you end up abandoning the campaign partway through, no big deal. That’s the beauty of free-to-keep game promos – the pressure is off.
The Epic Game Store is giving out PC copies of For the King until April 30, 2020, at 8:00 a.m. Pacific.
I’ve seen a lot of people call the game a “hidden gem” or a “sleeper hit.” If you’re looking to reunite with your tabletop buddies and you can tolerate the occasional tragic dice roll, it’s well worth a shot.
While you’re here, you’re probably wondering about the next freebie lined up for April 30. We’re getting two: Crashlands, a self-proclaimed sassy action-RPG, and Amnesia: The Dark Descent, a piece of modern horror gaming history. The latter is worth revisiting ahead of this year’s sequel, Amnesia: Rebirth.
