Rick and Morty is about to return to Adult Swim for the second half of Season 4. And ahead of the midseason premiere on May 3, IGN can exclusively debut a new image from an upcoming episode.
Check out the new image below, as it seems the series is gearing up for a parody of the Alien franchise.
Creators Justin Roiland and Dan Harmon are famously secretive about new Rick and Morty episodes, to the point where Adult Swim didn’t even tell us what episode this image is pulled from. However, given all the the Alien and Prometheus-inspired imagery here (including Xenomorph eggs and anti-facehugger protective masks), we’re pretty confident this image is a teaser of Season 4, Episode 7, titled “Promortyus.”
As per usual, Adult Swim’s official description of the episode is amusingly short and ambiguous. It reads simply, “Get off my face broh.”
That’s not much to go on, but it definitely looks as though the series will be spoofing another iconic sci-fi franchise in Season 4. We can probably expect Rick to let everyone know exactly what he thinks of moronic scientists who harvest alien eggs without proper protection and think the best way to run from a falling, horseshoe-shaped spaceship is in a straight line. But if we’ve learned anything from the past several seasons, it’s that these pop culture parodies never last long before the series takes a sharp left turn. “Promortyus” may start out as a traditional Rick and Morty adventure, with Rick and his grandson traveling to a faraway world to harvest some rare doodad, but surely there’s a big twist in store.

Hopefully this new image will help tide fans over until the series finally returns. Rick and Morty: Season 4 will resume on Sunday, May 3, and air every Sunday night through the end of the month. Adult Swim recently revealed the titles of all five remaining Season 4 episodes.
While the split schedule of Season 4 is unusual, it seems to be a sign of things to come. New Rick and Morty episodes should start arriving more frequently, if not always in large batches. Rick and Morty was renewed for a whopping 70 episodes back in 2018. Work has long since begun on Season 5, and co-creator Dan Harmon says the waits between new seasons won’t be as long as they once were.
In addition to more Rick and Morty, Roiland is also involved in another new animated sitcom called Solar Opposites, which is premiering on Hulu on May 8.
