Marc Guggenheim, one of the architects of The CW’s Arrowverse, will script Jackpot for Sony Pictures based on the Marvel Comics title, according to Deadline.

The project falls under the banner of the Sony Pictures Universe of Marvel Characters, the all-encompassing handle for Sony’s Marvel filmography from the old Tobey Maguire Spidey films to Morbius and Venom.

Before he became the maestro of DC Comics on television, Guggenheim was a Marvel Comics writer who worked on the “Brand New Day” storyline that the character of Jackpot came from.

jackpot-cover1Jackpot followed scientist Sara Ehret who gains superpowers through a virus that altered her DNA. Boasting super strength, she becomes a crime-fighting mom who had to balance the duties of both family and superheroism.

Ehret briefly handed the mantle of Jackpot over to the ill-fated Alana Jobson before returning to the role. Fans had long speculated that Jackpot, who sported long red hair and used the expression “Tiger,” was actually Peter Parker’s beloved Mary Jane Watson but that did not turn out to be the case.

Jackpot isn’t the only comic book movie Marc Guggenheim is currently working on. He’s also writing the feature film adaptation of Rob Liefeld’s Prophet and is adapting the graphic novel Gantz for Sony.

Other Spidey spin-offs in development include Kraven the Hunter and Madame Web, the latter of which will reportedly be directed by Jessica Jones’ S.J. Clarkson.
