This The Last of Us 2 Walkthrough Chapter 3: Seattle Day 2 – Finding Strings provides tips for dealing with infected in the motel and all the collectible locations and notable areas including 1 Artifact, 1 Trading Card, and 1 Journal Entry.

Finding Strings Walkthrough

Journal Entry – View of Jackson

As soon as the flashback begins with Ellie and Tommy, veer off to the right to get a grand view of Jackson in the distant valley to sketch it in your journal.

Take Tommy’s advice and shoot with the distance in mind. This means you’ll need to aim a bit higher so that when the bullet descends it hits your target. You’ll return to the cabin and head out again with Joel to find some new strings. Follow Joel on horseback. Turns out making it to the music store isn’t going to be so easy.

Trading Card – Austringer

When Joel suggests going through the hotel, head down to the small pool of water instead and look inside a white car at the edge for a book with a trading card sticking out.

When you’re ready to continue crawl through the debris, as Joel suggests. Continue forward and move the vending machine with Joel and enter the spore infected area.

Artifact – Tara’s Invitation

Once you enter the hotel with Joel, follow him until you enter the spore-filled halls and enter Room 107 (he stops to crouch down and inspect a body here). Inside the room, look on a dresser for a note.

Fight Off Infected

Start off with stealth but be ready for it to devolve into a bit of a brawl. There’s plenty of space so run away if it’s needed. Expect runners and clickers alike. When you go for the next door, more infected will appear. Keep in mind they may come from all sides.

Follow Joel.

Fight the Shambler

Fight the Shambler but be mindful of the runners nearby. Move often and keep your distance. Mind your surroundings for other infected.

Follow Joel again and eventually a cutscene will begin and lead into the next section: Seattle Day 3 – The Seraphites.
