Here at IGN we occasionally like to showcase something from geekdom’s rich history — a pop-culture Time Capsule, if you will, that gives us a peek in to the past, perhaps providing a new appreciation for previous projects.
If you’d like, please check out the past few Time Capsules:
- Check out the first Star Wars Comic-Con panel in 1976
- The Office: Watch Seth Rogen, Bob Odenkirk, and more audition for famous Dunder Mifflin characters

This month, the first X-Men movie celebrates 20 years of SNIKT!’ing and Cerebro’ing, and so to celebrate the occasion our Time Capsule is a loving look back at the film that made Hugh Jackman a star, Ray Park a toad, Bruce Davison a puddle of slime, and brought so many comic book fans’ dreams to life for the first time on the big screen.
This film would give birth to a long-running franchise; one filled with highs (First Class, Logan) and lows (too many to list here) that would unload a bub-ton of Wolverine into multiplexes. These 12 films would delight us with Deadpool, dizzy us with a nonsensical timeline, and drag us with two failed attempts at a Dark Phoenix storyline. And one day, in the future, on a giant spaceship holding the last remnants of humanity, exploring space in an attempt to find a new hospitable world, The New Mutants will finally air in the community corner of the cafeteria.
The first X-clip for our Time Capsule is a fun flashback to the Wolverine vs. Mystique fight. This behind-the-scenes video features Hugh Jackman, Rebecca Romijn, their stunt doubles, some wire work, and a cruel joke about a Mystique sequel that would take 1,200 days to shoot (it took Romijn seven hours to get fully blue)…

This next clip is a lot longer, containing Storm vs .Toad, Logan vs. Canadian Cage Fighter #2, Magneto throwing cars, Wolvie rockin’ that Double-D (Double Denim), and Cyclops being a total loser (it’s implied). Take a look!
