Will there be other DualSense colors beyond the default white gamepad? Of course. Eventually. Sony came out with dozens of alternate colorways for the DualShock 4, so it’s only a matter of time for the PS5 controller. Will we be able to pick up a non-white DualSense at launch? I wouldn’t count on it.

Apart from sharing hands-on impressions of the DualSense controller and the PlayStation 5 pack-in game Astro’s Playroom, Geoff Keighley also spoke with PlayStation’s head of worldwide marketing Eric Lempel for about 15 minutes. One of the topics they touched on was alternate DualSense colors.

“We’ll talk about it at some point,” Lempel said when asked about colors. “Right now, as you mentioned, it’s a hard enough job to get the unit that we’ve showed out. But we’ll talk about it at some point.”

If they’re open to suggestions – and I have no reason to believe they are, but I’m gonna shoot my shot anyway – then I’d like to formally request a crystal variant of the DualSense. Let me see inside!

Lempel also explained that, despite rumors, Sony isn’t about to open PS5 pre-orders out of the blue. “We’ll let you know when pre-order will happen,” he said. “It’s not gonna happen with a minute’s notice.”

People are getting antsy, and I don’t blame them. It’s been a long year. It’s only getting longer.
