At the end of last week, actor Henry Cavill posted a video to his personal Instagram account chronicling his adventures assembling a gaming PC. It was a full build from the ground up and is an absolute beast of a machine.

The video begins with a still shot of the various components and peripherals, as is the unofficial requirement for PC-building ascension videos, followed by Cavill assembling, and then reassembling, his massive PC. While his video editors did a good job blurring out the brand names of the various components (keeping Cavill from giving them free publicity or endorsements) anyone with familiarity with PC gaming can identify just about everything in his build from the boxes and components alone. Which is what I did.

Now, there are a few components I’m unsure of, like the exact SeaSonic PSU and Fractal Design case, but I went with my best-guess for those based on the rest of Superman’s super-build. If you’re in the US, and a movie star, you can click the link to buy the components from Newegg.

What’s Inside Henry Cavill’s PC

Henry Cavill’s PC Gaming Peripherals

Among the parts and pieces in the video’s initial still are a keyboard, display, and gaming mouse.

Estimated Total Cost to Build Henry Cavill’s PC

This estimate is very rough, because supply-chain disruptions and overwhelming demand for PC parts and accessories have driven prices all over the place. Basing it on the prices currently advertised on Newegg, here’s the estimated breakdown (prices in USD):

  • ROG Strix GeForce RTX 2080Ti 11GB – $1239.99
  • RYZEN 9 3900X 12-Core 3.8 GHz – $429.99
  • G.SKILL Trident Z Neo Series 32GB DDR4 RAM – $143.99
  • NZXT Kraken Z Series Z73 Liquid Cooler – $299.99
  • ASUS ROG Crosshair VIII AMD X570 Mobo – $556.03
  • SeaSonic PRIME TX-1000 PSU – $499.99
  • Samsung 970 Pro 1TB NVMe SSD (x2) – $679.98
  • Fractal Design Meshify S2 Black ATX Tower – $149.99
  • Windows 10 Home OEM 64-bit – $109.99

Total Cost at Current Prices: $4,109.95 USD

So at today’s exchange rates that’s £3251.62/$5862.84AUD/$5565.37CA…and that’s without the display, mouse and keyboard.

So there you go. If you have that kind of cash on-hand, you can build Superman’s PC. It’s probably overkill for most people’s needs, but when it comes to PC gaming, my philosophy is “figure out how much you can afford, then double it, then figure out some way to save up that money.”
