At IGN, we have taken action in support of Black Lives Matter since protests erupted across the US after the killing of George Floyd by a Minneapolis police officer. Here are some of the charities and resources we’ve supported this summer, and some additional options by which you can join us in taking action. The fight isn’t over; as instances of police brutality and systemic racism toward Black people continue, we hope you’ll consider joining us in helping in whatever way you can to bring about change.
Color of Change
Color of Change is a nonprofit organization that designs campaigns to help end practices that marginalize Black people in the United States.
About Color of Change:
“We help people respond effectively to injustice in the world around us. As a national online force driven by 1.7 million members, we move decision-makers in corporations and government to create a more human and less hostile world for Black people in America.”
The Bail Project
The Bail Project is a nonprofit that pays bail for people in need, reuniting families and restoring the presumption of innocence.
About The Bail Project:
“We believe that paying bail for someone in need is an act of resistance against a system that criminalizes race and poverty and an act of solidarity with local communities and movements for decarceration. Over the next five years, The Bail Project will open dozens of sites in high-need jurisdictions with the goal of paying bail for tens of thousands of low-income Americans, all while collecting stories and data that prove money bail is not necessary to ensure people return to court. We won’t stop until meaningful change is achieved and the presumption of innocence is no longer for sale.”
The NAACP Legal Defense Fund
The NAACP Legal Defense Fund is a leading civil rights organization dedicated to racial justice.
“Through litigation, advocacy, and public education, LDF seeks structural changes to expand democracy, eliminate disparities, and achieve racial justice in a society that fulfils the promise of equality for all Americans. LDF also defends the gains and protections won over the past 80 years of civil rights struggle and works to improve the quality and diversity of judicial and executive appointments.”
Black Lives Matter
Founded in 2013, Black Lives Matter is a global organization dedicated to eradicating white supremacy and combating acts of violence on Black communities.
“We are expansive. We are a collective of liberators who believe in an inclusive and spacious movement. We also believe that in order to win and bring as many people with us along the way, we must move beyond the narrow nationalism that is all too prevalent in Black communities. We must ensure we are building a movement that brings all of us to the front.”
