In fast moving overnight news, Microsoft has officially confirmed the existence of the industry’s worst kept secret, Xbox Series S. The lower-powered edition of next-gen Xbox hardware will launch later this year for $299.
Microsoft’s hand was seemingly forced after leaks sprung up on both Windows Central and tech site Thurrot, showing off the Xbox Series S and announcing the price point. This was swiftly followed by an official announcement from Microsoft on Twitter, with promise of further details in the very near future.
Windows Central also went as far as to suggest that the Xbox Series S will launch on November 10, alongside its bigger brother, Xbox Series X, positing that the latter unit will retail for around $499. In addition, Windows Central revealed the existence of a financing option, which will allow customers to purchase the respective consoles on a $25/$35-per-month payment plan. Microsoft has not yet officially referenced any speculation regarding the Xbox Series X or its launch date.
Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S are both scheduled for launch later in 2020.
