The Sony PS5 is now available for preorder. Here’s where you can get your hands on a shiny new PS5 or PS5 Digital edition.

Where to Preorder PS5

UPDATE 8:12 PM ET: Best Buy now has PS5 preorders in stock.

More and more retailers are coming online with live PS5 preorder pages, including Walmart and Target. GameStop is also offering preorders at its physical locations, and it looks like online preorders will follow suit soon.

Walmart preorders are showing “out of stock,” but you might get lucky.

Amazon’s placeholder page initially had item details, but it has since been taken it down. If a retailer link changes or is swapped we will update this pages to always maintain the latest, so keep checking back:

Also, while you’re here, you can get much more immediate stock updates by following IGN Deals on Twitter.

Preorders for PS5 will begin in full tomorrow, September 17, at certain retailers, according to a tweet from Sony. But with Walmart already having them live, it’s likely we’ll see others follow suit. In fact, GameStop PS5 preorders are already happening if you go in-person to a physical GameStop location.

Where to Preorder PS5 in the UK

Pre-orders for UK retailer GAME have gone up early, and you can currently pre-order a number of different PS5 bundles from the online retailer. PS5 games have also gone up for pre-order, alongside several new accessories. PS5 costs £449.99 from GAME, with the digital edition costing £359.99.

PS5 Release Date

Both versions of the PS5, with or without a disc drive, have a November 12 release date in the US. And we now know how much PS5 costs: $499 for the standard version, and $399 for the discless model.

At the start of the month in PS5 news, developers shared their takes on the SSD and 3D Audio features of the upcoming console. It’s shaping up to be a very cool console, even if we still have no price or availability numbers. Sony also set up a page for PS Plus members to sign up for a chance to secure a PS5 preorder directly from Sony.

We also got news Ratchet & Clank: A Rift Apart is definitely a PS5 launch game, but during Gamescom it was confirmed to be a “launch window” game, which could mean anything.

In spite of dragging its feet on an official PS5 release date announcement until finally revealing it during the September 16 event, Sony reiterated the PS5 is NOT being pushed into 2021 much earlier this year.

UK Readers

The “global rollout” for PS5’s release happens on November 19. Here’s where you can find links for PS5 preorders in the UK:

Will PS5 Be Easy to Get?

That’s a tough call. We won’t know until it’s gone, basically. Sony upped its production earlier this year, anticipating higher demand for the system. Whether or not they can reach that level remains to be seen. Getting one from Walmart was certainly a journey: endless captchas, boots, and out of stock notifications. But if you persevere you can grab one.

PS5 Retailers

We also don’t know what Sony means by “Select retailers” for PS5 preorders.

PS5 Price

The PS5 standard console with a disc drive costs $499, while the discless version will cost $399.

PS5 Game Prices

The good news is we know games like Far Cry 6 support free upgrades from PS4 to PS5. While it looked as though PS5 and Xbox Series X games will cost $70, more recent developments seem to point to publishers holding onto the current $59.99 price for new games, at least for the time being. It appears now many first-party Sony PS5 games will cost $70 after all, including Demon’s Souls and Destruction All Stars. However, Spider-Man: Miles Morales has a $50 price tag, and looks amazing by the way.

Will My PS4 Controller Work on PS5?

No. Well, not at least for PS5 games. Sony confirmed the DualShock 4 won’t work for playing PS5 games, but you WILL be able to use your existing PS4 controllers to play “supported PS4 games.” Speaking of which…

Will PS5 Be Backwards Compatible?

Yes. Well, for PS4, we know some supported games will work. In a (now removed) entry on its support page, Ubisoft said of PS5 backwards compatibility it “will be available for supported PlayStation 4 titles, but will not be possible for PlayStation 3, PlayStation 2, or PlayStation games.” So unlike Xbox, which is leaning into backwards compatibility all the way back to the original Xbox as a selling point, it looks like PS5 backwards compatibility comes with some asterisks.

However, Sony introduced the PlayStation Plus Collection, Sony’s answer to Xbox Game Pass. At launch, PS Plus members will be able to download and play some of the biggest PS4 games as part of their subscription.
