Bill Murray is entering the NFT space to launch a collection of blockchain collectibles that will unlock stories and anecdotes from his life.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the actor is working in partnership with viral photo site and streaming company The Chive to turn his many musings into an NFT collection of "Bill Murray Stories," with each token featuring "a unique graphic" of Murray as well as "a brief anecdote" that the actor has either shared himself or verified for the project.

"I asked Bill's thoughts about all the Bill Murray stories swirling about," Chive Media Group co-founder John Resig said, recalling how the collaboration came about. "Bill gave a surprisingly candid answer, 'I like them just fine, I was even present for a few.' Bill leaned in with that mischievous twinkle in his eye, 'But there are more stories out there, better stories.'"

Murray added that he had struggled to find the right moment and medium by which to share his stories, having never had the desire to "film a documentary or write an autobiography." The Official Bill Murray NFT 1000 presented Murray with an alternative "storytelling vehicle" to document some of his personal encounters with fans and fellow celebrities.

THR notes that the tales range from "professional topics (such as discussing a role he turned down), to philosophical Murray-isms, to his uncommon pastimes and quirks." One story in the collection will explain why Murray has spent the past five years sending texts without the letter "M," while another will reveal more about the actor's fondness for fresh eggs, laid daily.

NFTs and cryptocurrencies have seen a massive wave of attention in the tech space in the last year, and continue to be controversial subjects. They are largely unregulated entities often exploited for scam purposes and have been accused of having a huge negative impact on the environment due to the energy consumed during the electronic mining of currency.

More details about the Official Bill Murray NFT 1000 is expected to be released in the coming weeks, along with the NFT hero image of Murray by artist David Grizzle. The Bill Murray Stories collection will debut on Coinbase's upcoming NFT marketplace, with all proceeds from the first token up for auction going entirely to charity.
